Who we are

The Order of DeMolay is a leadership organization for young men, founded in 1919 and named for Jacques de Molay. It has taught the same thing ever since: that a young man's word, his conduct and his loyalty are worth more than anything he owns.

DeMolay is an international organization for young men bonded together for mutual improvement to help each other, live clean, manly, upright, patriotic lives, which will be credited to their parents and friends and which will merit the commendation of all good men.

No DeMolay shall fail as a citizen, as a leader and as a man.

Members lead

A DeMolay learns to lead by leading, in front of people whose opinion of him matters. This is not a claim about intent. In 2005 Baguio Chapter No. 9 hosted the 9th National DeMolay Conclave, Congress and Olympics at Teachers Camp, the first national conclave in the country run entirely by DeMolays. In 2011 the chapter took the overall championship in ritual competition at the Luzon Jurisdictional Conclave.

For parents

DeMolay is closely connected to Freemasonry, as it was founded by a Freemason, Frank S. Land, in 1919. While DeMolay is not a Masonic organization but an appendant body, it operates with Masonic principles and values. Many DeMolay chapters are sponsored by local Masonic lodges, and the organization's teachings, such as leadership, moral integrity, and community service, align with Masonic ideals. The connection between DeMolay and Freemasonry is one of mentorship, where young men in DeMolay are guided by Masons to develop into responsible and ethical adults.

The chapter does not teach or advocate any religious creed. Baguio Chapter No. 9 is sponsored by Baguio Masonic Lodge No. 67 and works under the Supreme Council, Order of DeMolay, Republic of the Philippines.

Our chapter

In early 1968 a Baguio-born member of the Jose Abad Santos Chapter in Manila proposed bringing the Order to Baguio City. Baguio Lodge No. 67 agreed to sponsor it and carried the cost, assessing each member twenty pesos. On 22 December 1968 the chapter was instituted with 25 charter members.

The chapter hibernated in the 1980s and was reconstituted on 11 June 1987. It was granted its Perpetual Constitution on 29 March 1992, and hosted the 5th National DeMolay Conclave in 1993.

The chapter's alumni body, Baguio Centennial DeMolay Alumni Chapter No. 20, is still active and organises the annual Crescent Run, which Baguio Chapter No. 9 supports. See upcoming events.

Records from 1968 to 1982 are reconstructed accounts. The originals were burned at the Supreme Council and damaged by the 1990 earthquake.
